Ron is a seasoned entrepreneur, the second generation of the Ferster family to join Sanwa. Ron has successfully been adapting his many skills to grow businesses organically and by acquisition since the start of his career. Joining Sanwa in 1987, initially as a trader in polymers and later to become the Managing Director. Under his guidance, Sanwa and its affiliated entities have grown significantly, with a relentless focus on profitable growth, leadership development and employee participation.
Ron graduated from the University of New South Wales with BCom (Hons) in 1974, he then joined Rank Xerox in Australia and the United Kingdom, as a marketing analyst. Then completed an MBA from the Cass Business School in London .
As the third-generation member of the Ferster Family, Daniel Ferster first joined Sanwa upon graduation from the University of New South Wales in 2008. After three years of foundational steel trading experience in the Australian and New Zealand markets, Daniel completed his MBA at the distinguished IESE University, returning in 2014 to join Sanwa management. In 2021, Daniel relocated from Sydney to New York City to expand Sanwa’s geographical footprint into North America.
David Roberts started trading with one of the original Australian steel traders in the 1980s and on his joining to Sanwa in 1991 introduced the company to metals trading. Since that time he has been responsible for developing sources for steel out of South Africa in the 1990s when Sanwa became involved in the charter of ships to Australia and then in the 2000s where his knowledge and expertise in various constructions steels saw Sanwa become one of the largest long product steel importers. In more recent times he has welcomed various new traders to the business which has greatly helped the broadening of the product base. Originally a lawyer with a Bachelor of Law, David was more recently elected vice-president of the Australia Steel Association, a position he has held for more than 5 years
After graduating with a Bachelor of Business, Michael joined Price Waterhouse as a graduate where he completed his Chartered Accountancy studies. On leaving Price Waterhouse, Michael worked in various industries including fishing, butcher supply, and clothing before finally commencing in Sanwa in 1995 as the CFO. Michael is responsible for the Sanwa Group in all aspects including banking, administration, IT, telecommunications, insurance and accounting.
Beginning his steel career in South Africa, Howard relocated to Hong Kong in 1985 where he was involved in the Stainless Steel trading division of Macsteel International for a 6 year period.
Relocating from Hong Kong to Sydney, Howard then joined Sanwa Pty Ltd, to assist in growing the steel trading division in stainless steels. Howard, completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Witwatersrand, followed by a Post Diploma in Management at Wits Business School.
After directing one of the preeminent structural steel fabrication companies in South Africa, Mark Horwitz joined Sanwa in 2003. Mark has been integral in the successful development and management of the company’s dominant steel long product portfolios. He is passionate about adding value to and enhancing long-term customer and supplier relationships with a focus on product quality, supply consistency, reliability, and exceeding industry expectations. Mark completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Economics and Business Finance (University of the Witwatersrand) and a post-graduate Honours degree in Business Management (UNISA).
